One week of exercise break is enough to maintain .your fitness level, provided you do physical activity during the day like walking or do household chores.

One of my office mates recently took a one-week break after three months of regular exercise. When I weighed her after, she lost another 3 pounds which completed her goal weight loss of 12 pounds for the first quarter of her program.

But others who took a two- week break from physical activity had different results. Imagine how your body will react if you start running again after two weeks of inactivity.

Second, you might have greater chance to lose control over food, which will result in weight gain. Lastly, you might break your exercise habit completely.
Manage your lifestyle as early as now.

I know a lot of group fimess instructors and runners who can eat anything and still lose or maintain their weight because they can burn as much as 1,000 or more calories a day due to intense training. However, during holiday breaks, they can easily gain weight because they are already used to eating high-calorie meals. This only shows that if you don’t manage your eating behavior and food choices during training, you can always gain weight fast on exercise breaks.

If you want to burn more calories, add informal physical activities like walking. But experts suggest that about 70 percent of weight loss results come from managing one’s food. To prevent weight gain, choose healthy foods, eat slowly and in moderation even during peak exercise periods.

If you want to sustain the rate of your weight loss, focus on burning 400-600 calories per day, five to six days a week.
